 Currently the Route 9 Branch Canal Bridge over the Delaware City Marina canal (the original C&D Canal bed) is being replaced. A long detour through Port Penn and north via Route 9 across the Reedy Point Bridge over the modern day C&D Canal is required. Call Martha Bennett, Office Manager for the Society for further details and updates.

The Society's Headquarters, Collections & Library are open to Society members and the general public Wednesday and Thursday, 8 AM to 2 PM each week throughout the year with all normal Federal and state holidays observed.

Please call the Society office ahead of time if you plan to visit our Collections & Library and are traveling any significant distance to get here, or have special scheduling needs of your own. We will do our best to make an appointment for you which will accommodate your visit.

  Questions about (1) ferry scheduling and fees, (2) dates when Pea Patch Island and Fort Delaware are open to the public, and (3) living history programs, group tours, and special events should be directed to Fort Delaware State Park at (302) 834-7941. Visitors are encouraged to make reservations via the Fort Delaware State Park reservation system on line or by calling to ensure a seat on the Three Forts Ferry. If you are planning to travel any significant distance to visit Fort Delaware and Pea Patch Island, it is strongly recommended that you call ahead to verify that the State Park will be open.

Follow Route 9 past traffic light at Clinton Street in Delaware City towards the Reedy Point Bridge over the C&D Canal. Bear right just past the Branch Canal bridge towards the Grass Dale Center. Take the first left underneath the Reedy Point Bridge approach ramp. Enter Fort DuPont State Park and continue straight ahead along Wilmington Avenue past Sussex Avenue. Turn left on Staff Lane.
